Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

How do I add my dog?

Open Pawdex and tap the paw icon in the top right of the home screen. Fill in your dog's name, breed, birthday, and any other info you want. You can skip anything you don't know yet and add it later. Tap Save and your dog's profile is ready.

Can I track more than one dog?

Yes. Tap the dog selector at the top of the home screen and choose "Add another dog." Each dog gets their own profile, records, and reminders. Switch between dogs anytime from the same selector.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Pawdex doesn't have accounts, sign-ups, or passwords. Open the app and start using it. Your information stays on your phone.

Does Pawdex work offline?

Yes. Pawdex works without an internet connection because everything lives on your device. The care guide, training content, checklists, and your dog's records are all available offline.

Managing Your Data

Where is my data stored?

On your phone, and only on your phone. We don't have servers that receive your data. We never see what you enter, including your dog's name, photos, vet records, or anything else. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.

How do I export my data?

Open Settings inside Pawdex and tap Export Data. Pawdex will create a file containing everything you've entered. You can save it to your Files app, email it to yourself, or send it to your other device. Keep a copy somewhere safe as a backup.

How do I move my data to a new phone?

First, export your data from your old phone using the steps above. Then install Pawdex on your new phone, open Settings, tap Import Data, and select the file. Your dogs, records, reminders, and history will all be restored.

Can I move my data from iPhone to Android (or the other way)?

Yes. The export and import process works across both platforms. Export from one, transfer the file by any method that works for you (email, cloud storage, AirDrop to a friend, anything), then import on the other phone.

What happens to my data if I delete Pawdex?

It's deleted with the app. Because your data lives only on your device, removing Pawdex removes your data along with it. We cannot recover it for you because we never had a copy. Always export a backup before uninstalling if you want to keep your records.

Is cloud sync coming?

Yes. We're working on optional iCloud sync on iOS and Google Drive sync on Android so your data can move between your own devices automatically. Even with sync, the data still won't pass through our servers. Watch this page for the release.

Reminders and Notifications

How do I set up a reminder?

Open the dog you want to set a reminder for, tap Reminders, then tap the plus button. Choose what the reminder is for (medication, vet visit, vaccine, feeding, anything custom), set the date and time, and tap Save. Pawdex will notify you when it's due.

Why am I not getting notifications?

Notifications need permission to reach you. Open your phone's Settings, find Pawdex, and make sure Notifications are allowed. On iOS, also check that "Time Sensitive" is on so reminders break through Focus modes. If notifications were working before and suddenly stopped, restart your phone and try again.

Can I have recurring reminders for medication?

Yes. When you create a reminder, set the repeat frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, custom). Pawdex will notify you each time a dose is due.

Tips and Purchases

Is Pawdex really free?

Yes. The entire app is free. There is no premium tier. There are no locked features. There is nothing to upgrade. The optional tip jar in Settings is voluntary and unlocks nothing.

What is the tip jar?

If Pawdex makes your life easier and you want to support us, you can leave an optional tip from the Settings screen. Tips are processed through Apple's in-app purchase system on iOS or Google Play Billing on Android. They are entirely voluntary. Nothing about the app changes if you tip or skip.

I tipped by accident. How do I get a refund?

Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by Apple or Google, not by us.

On iOS: open the App Store, tap your profile icon, tap "Purchases," find Pawdex, tap "Report a Problem," and request a refund through reportaproblem.apple.com.

On Android: open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, tap "Payments & subscriptions," and follow the refund flow.

Both companies typically approve refunds for accidental purchases without issue.

Care Guide and Health Tracking

Is the care guide medical advice?

No. The care guide is general educational information. It is not a substitute for advice from a licensed veterinarian. Always check with your vet for anything specific to your dog's health, diet, or medications. In an emergency, contact an emergency veterinary facility immediately.

The care guide says one thing but my vet said another. Who's right?

Your vet. Always. The care guide is general reference based on common practices. Your vet knows your specific dog, breed, age, medical history, and current condition. Trust them over the app for anything health-related.

Can I add my own notes to a vet visit?

Yes. Open the vet visit entry and use the Notes field. Add anything you want to remember: questions to ask next time, observations, weight at the time, things the vet said. Notes are searchable across all your dog's records.

Can I track symptoms or behavior changes?

Yes. Use the Notes feature on any day to log what you noticed. Many users keep a running log of small things (limping after walks, refusing breakfast, scratching more than usual) so they can show their vet a clear timeline at the next visit.

Privacy and Data

Does Pawdex track me or collect my data?

No. Pawdex contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking SDKs, and no servers that receive your data. We don't know who uses Pawdex or what they enter into it. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Why does Pawdex need notification permission?

So we can remind you about medication doses, vet appointments, and other reminders you set up. All notifications are scheduled and delivered locally by your phone. We don't see them.

Why does Pawdex need photo or camera permission?

So you can add photos of your dog to their profile. Photos are stored on your device only. They are never uploaded.

Troubleshooting

The app crashed or is behaving strangely. What do I do?

Try this first: close Pawdex completely (swipe it away from the app switcher) and reopen it. If that doesn't help, restart your phone. If the issue continues, email us at support@furstenburgdigital.com with a description of what happened and what you were doing when it crashed. Include your phone model and OS version if you can.

I lost some data. Can you help recover it?

Because your data is stored only on your device and never sent to us, we cannot recover lost data. If you had previously exported a backup, you can import it from Settings. If you didn't have a backup, the data is gone. We're sorry. This is the tradeoff of true on-device privacy. We recommend exporting a backup at least every few weeks.

A feature isn't working the way I expect.

Tell us. Email support@furstenburgdigital.com with what you tried, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened. If it's a bug, we want to fix it. If it's working as designed but the design is confusing, that's also feedback we want.

Suggesting Features

I have an idea for a feature.

We want to hear it. Email support@furstenburgdigital.com with the subject "Feature Request" and tell us what you'd like. We can't promise we'll build everything, but every suggestion gets read. Most of the best features in Pawdex came from user requests.

Will you add support for cats, rabbits, or other pets?

Right now Pawdex is built specifically for dogs. We focused on doing one thing well rather than being okay at everything. If we eventually expand, we'll announce it here and on Instagram.

Support Pawdex

Pawdex is free and stays free. There are no ads, no subscriptions, and we don't sell your data. If the app makes your life easier and you want to chip in, leave an optional tip. Anything you give goes toward keeping Pawdex running and building the features users ask for.

Tip any amount →

You can also tip from inside the app on the Settings screen. Tipping is completely optional.
